Not every day can we hear comments about the Thai film industry by a member of the Thai Royal family. Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya, whi is an actress herself, visited the Cannes film festival and she was interviewed by Reuters about the Thai film industry's current state.

The princess talked about her 2 new films, "The Legend of the Queen" and "My Best Bodyguard", a historical and an action movie respectively. Also, her current movie "Oriental Eyes" is currently being filmed in Switzerland. Her inspiration to become an actress came from her admiration of Angeline Jolie.
The princess would like to attract more foreign film producers to Thailand. In 2008, 2 Billion Baht were brought into Thailand as a direct result of foreign filmmakers choosing thailand as a shooting locations for their movies.
She also mentions that the Entertainment Expo 2009 will take place as planned this year at Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon from 10th until 20th September 2009. , which will be held at Paragon Hall of Siam Paragon department store from September 10th to 20th. The event will have an archive of works in the film, music, television, and computer industries.

She goes on saying that she thinks the number one selling point for Thai movies is the "Thainess" of the,. So she urges producers to not copy foreign movies but keep on making unique Thai movies.
Here are 3 quotes from Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya's that she gave to Reuters:
"You know I'm not like a princess in the true sense of the word not like Queen Elizabeth or anything like the palace. I'm kind of far apart from the family and so you know I do this, I tell them (fellow actors on set) to be professional and do their job. In the movie I'm not a princess."
"I like Angelina Jolie. Like in Tomb Raider, a good action figure for a woman. And she looks nice and she's got really nice figure and nice moves and I like her."
"There are a lot of variations of Thai movies, it's not just one kind. I think the biggest selling point right now is that we're being ourselves, not trying to imitate others."
